I purchased this replacement carafe when the original one accidentally broke. The first few weeks were fine. However, it now constantly leaks around the rim when you are pouring coffee into your cup which forces us to pour our coffee into a cup over the kitchen sink to avoid leaking on the kitchen counter. A definite waste of good coffee! I believe that the leaking is secondary to the carafe being washed in the dishwasher. If you purchase this product, I recommend that you wash it by hand.

While the KCM22_ series of coffeemakers do a great job of brewing great tasting coffee, the silicone sealant that seals the black plastic to the top of the glass carafe does not adhere well to the glass. If you read the reviews for the coffeemaker you will see a lot of people have had the same issue. Knowing this when I bought the machine- I was very careful with the carafe- using and cleaning it. Two weeks and the plastic rim detached from the glass. The rim is still mechanically attached near the handle, but has a gap the rest of the way around. Kitchenaid quickly sent a free replacement per the no-hassle warr. Two weeks later same problem. In my opinion this is also unsanitary, as the gap now holds coffee and is difficult to rinse or clean out. I may try to disassemble the rim from the glass and use new FOOD-SAFE Silicone from home-depot or lowes. The manuf. does not seem to care about fixing this issue as it has existed for over a year according to reviews on Amazon for the coffeemaker.

Hard to blame the carafe but The Kitchen Aid coffee maker destroyed this less than a week after I bought it....The issue is with the machine itself, because it stuck on and melted the rim on this carafe and also the one it replaced. At 28 bucks I should have saved my money and went for a different coffee maker (which is what I ended up doing.) Will never buy another plate warmer coffee pot because the computer screwed up and left the pot on. It melted the plastic on the carafe (should not be plastic) and also some plastic on the coffee maker itself...could have burned down the house.....Needs to be recalled
