I've discovered it's better to slowly pour in the hot water in small increments otherwise it splashes the coffee grounds causing waste. If you go slowly, it keeps the grounds in place at the bottom of the filter.

This is size #2, for coffeemakers up to 4 cups that don't use the more commonly found flat basket filters. It's very easy to clean. Just quick rinse in a little water or use dishwasher. It should be handled with care but I've used it regularly for a few months and it's held up very well in the dishwasher. You could gently clean it with a toothbrush but this won't be necessary as long as you rinse it after using. The mesh is fine. You could use this with med-fine grind with no problems. I just wish it were better priced, as #4 size, which is larger is half the price. You'll feel good not throwing away all those paper filters.
