I bought this product on the basis of the claim that it was vacuum sealed. However that is far from the truth. While yes, you can create a vacuum inside of the chamber by pulling up on the lid, it does not maintain a vacuum and everything inside is still at atmospheric pressure. Unlike other devices, such as say Tupperware, which actually create a constant negative pressure when the top is "burped" the tightvac will never achieve pressure below atmospheric for any length of time (read 20-30 sec). The reason for this is that no air tight seal is EVER produced. As you lift the top off to open it you do feel resistance from air trying to enter through the snug, but nowhere near air-tight, gap between the two halves. If you stop lifting the top the pressure will equalize and return to atmospheric.I would not trust this container to be water tight let alone airtight. If they installed a o-ring to seal the lid and a means of evacuating air from inside they could achieve their marketing claims. As it is, it would make a nice post-modern canister for your coffee, but don't expect it to stay any fresher than in the can it came in.I gave it 2 stars mostly for aesthetics...But they are cheap!

I mistakenly ordered this thinking that it had a mechanism you could use to pump the excess air out of the interior - as in, you'd put the lid on, then pretend you're on an MK arcade machine in the early '90s and jam that button over and over and over again until the last bit of air was pumped out.Turns out that isn't the case. You depress the button, slide the cover on, and let go - which forms a very weak vacuum seal.It's fine for a small container for things. It just isn't very good at sealing things. Probably not worth the money.

I really like this item. It's big enough to hold a generous amount of product and small enough to carry with me. Seals nice and tight; the lid won't come off unless you press the button on the side of the lid which means less accidental spillage of precious cargo. I think that's pretty cool.
